On the evaluation of the ac-Stark shift and Kramers-Heisenberg dispersion formula

چکیده
We describe a unified approach for the determination of ac-Stark correction and Kramers-Heisenberg dispersion formula. In both cases the contribution from infinite intermediate summation appearing in the expression for the corresponding matrix elements are evaluated exactly in the dipole approximation for the ground state of hydrogen atom using a variation of Dalgarno-Lewis method. The analytical expressions obtained can be efficiently used for the numerical evaluation of matrix elements for all values of incident photon energy and comparison is made with results obtained by different methods. The Kramers-heisenberg Formula and the Gunn-peterson Trough from the First Objects in the Universe
Recent cosmological observations indicate that the reionized universe may have started at around z = 6, where a significant suppression around Lyα has been observed from the neutral intergalactic medium. The associated neutral hydrogen column density is expected to exceed 10 cm, where it is very important to use the accurate scattering cross section known as the Kramers-Heisenberg formula that ...

متن کاملHigh-sensitivity stark spectroscopy obtained by surface plasmon resonance measurement.
The effect (Stark effect) of an applied electric field on the electronic states of molecular adsorbates was studied by measuring surface plasmon resonance (SPR) as a function of the wavelength of the incident light that excites the SPR. Using the Kramers-Kronig relation, Stark spectra comparable to those obtained with conventional methods were extracted from the electric field-induced SPR angul...
متن کاملQuantum Dispersion Theory in the Early 20s
Heisenberg’s breakthrough to matrix mechanics was directly stimulated by studies of interaction of quantized material systems with electromagnetic radiation which came to a head in the Kramers-Heisenberg paper on dispersion theory in January 1925. In this talk, we will review the important contributions of Kramers, van Vleck, and Born to this subject. Important results from classical physics wi...
متن کاملAsymmetric Deviation of the Scattering Cross Section around Lyα by Atomic Hydrogen
We investigate the asymmetry of the scattering cross section of radiation around Lyα by atomic hydrogen, which may be applied to analyses of scattering media with high column neutral hydrogen densities including damped Lyα absorption systems of quasars. The exact scattering cross section is given by the Kramers-Heisenberg formula obtained from the fully quantum mechanical second-order time depe...
